La Tourbeille Vineyard

A French-American family. A family vineyard for a hundred years.

John & Mary Sandifer
John & Mary Sandifer   Vignoble de La Tourbeille – Domaine du Petit Roque

Our 25 acre vineyard (60% Merlot, 40% Cabernet France, 40% Cabernet Sauvignon) is perched on a sunny hilltop above the Dordogne River on bedrock of limestone, in ideal limestone-clay soil. To encourage valuable biodiversity we preserve the old forests that surround the vineyard and fruit trees amidst the vines. Matured, organic fertilizer comes from cows grazing on our pastures. The modern winery with custom made stainless steel tanks and oak barrels is manned by our enthusiastic, 4th generation French-American family.

La Tourbeille Rosé, “l’Esprit de Jeanne”

In the cool of September dawn, family and friends gather to harvest our special parcel of vieilles vignes  (70-year-old vines).  We assemble Cabernet Franc, Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon to create a limited edition Rosé.  Using a gentle pneumatic press as soon as the grapes are harvested ensures the pale pink color, delicate aromas and notes of summer berries. A manual brassage des lies  at the end of fermentation brings a subtle gras to the texture.   “L’Esprit de Jeanne” is elegant, dry and refreshing.  In 2017 it was selected by VINOGUSTO  as one of the “Top Ten Rosés of Bordeaux”.

2014 La Tourbeille Bordeaux Superieur Red –  silver medal winner of the prestigious Concours de Paris.
